Starting to put more characterization into the subway sketching... I'll be trying to the push the exaggerations and try to work in full body characterization...

Layout - I haven't really posted much work from layout in the past, cause its another course that I've struggled til recently... This first one is the last assignment in the course... had to replicate a pan from Pinocchio

We also did a few scenes from curious george... didn't push them to the final line, but think I get across the proper structure and layout for the scenes...

I'll likely be posting more school stuff before the end of the weekend, still trying to organize the studio... its just a mountain of paper still....

Sketchbook Update

Ok, quick update, cause I haven't done it in a while... been busy with all the class work, and this work week has been dedicated to unplugging and relaxing... so naturally I have a ton of work to get done over the next few days... maybe I'll update again this weekend with that work.

So life drawing sketchbook to start off... We've started to introduce tone into the quick studies, which I was doing last year, but been patiently waiting for the green light this year. I've also started to work more quick contour into my gesture exercises. I'll let you be the judge of the results.

Oh, and we have been encouraged to start characterizing the people that we see... so might be doing some more caricatures...

Had the first, and only field trip of the year. Fortunately its was to the anatomy lab at UofT... So I got to draw form actual human 'parts'... seriously... it was pretty awesome...

Resolutions, part deux

Right, so yet another hair brain new years resolution of mine is to attempt a blog posting a week for the year, that's right 52 of them... anyways, I won't stand on any formal system of posting, just putting up random work from the week... today I have some anatomy, and subway sketching... if you can't tell the difference between them, then I have failed as an artist.

more inevitably to come... actually should have another animation to post for next week

to be, Weekly Edition

Right, so meant to post these pictures up last night, but went out and caught Duska with a friend... it was interesting, but has some major flaws in the narrative/pacing...

anyways, these are just a few more subway sketches....

I pretty much go out subway sketching every Sunday (least during the summer) so this will likely become a weekly update... along with my Thursday life drawing session

a couple of quick full body gestures with a mechanical pencil... think they turned out well... just gotta try to get out to some sports practices for more active poses...

ok.. this last one is my first attempt at building gesture in a long time... think I'm gunna need some more practice...

As Promised

I'll kick this off with a little life drawing... No real textbook exercises, these drawings are a combination of contour lines and weight/tonal studies...

figured I'd better post a couple of my subway sketches again... finally able to get out to a bar to do a couple of them far more interesting/active poses then sleepy people on the TTC...

Finally here is what has been keeping me busy... Please keep in mind that these are not the finished panels, there is no dialog/sound effects yet... hence the photograph instead of being properly scanned... I'm work hard on the first few pages, and hopefully be able to preview the first page later this week...

Finally, a scanner

Ok... so finally got a scanner up and running... I can finally upload a metric ton of sketchs that I've done... random compositions... etc... etc...

I'll start with a group of subway sketches that I've been doing over the term... More often then not I'll spent the commute to school and back just sketching on the subway... technically I'm supposed to gesture the entire body... but thanks to rush hours, I've been limiting myself to the facial features... and on occasion the upper body...

I've been trying to incorporate basic tonal values to these quick doodles... using a watercolour brush pen with a India Ink/water cocktail...

I particularly enjoy this last page... I remember the subway being jam packed... so I was only able to draw one persons face unobstructed.. So I was able to complete a gesture along with a more polished inked drawing...

Right so hopefully I'll have a bit of time over the next few days to post some random sketches I've been doing for old/new projects
