Projected Retitling... etc...

Ok, so my insomnia is back, so that title probably makes very little sense, but its been a good 3 or 4 days without any decent sleep. So this post might not be the most coherent.... anyways, just figure I'd post a few random sketches...

Sack Sketches, a character sheet of movement range of the little jumping sack that I animated. There were a few other pages, but no need to bog down the blog.

The Take, figure I'd get a jump start on the next animation assignment. These are a few sketches for "The Take" which is as basic as it sounds, but has been around since the beginning of animation. Seriously, check out Gerdy the Dinosaur.

This last one is just an old sketch I ment to post a while ago, but didn't get around to it. The character is for a little narrative I thought up, but apparently not before Bill Plympton did. It was a basic dialog where an angel its swindled by a vixenish devil and is drowning his sorrow at a dive bar.

Oh and to make this post's title make sense, I've simply abreviated the title of that massive round headed character project. It's still a working title for right now and bound for inevitable change, but for now I'm referring to it as LBH. I'll be posting some new work from that project shortly

Cycle upon Cycle

Hey, so finally got the official final grade for the term... High pass for animation, so figure I'd share the fruits of my labour with everybody...

now these are just line tests, and these animation are still on the 'rough' side to help save on time... plus they are just exercise in comprehending movement and timing... think I did really well on them... but take a look for yourselves... also it looks like youtube and Flipbook have conspired against me... the final few frames of each video have been cut off... gunna see if I can fix that...

Simple waving line test... (which no longer works and is about 4 frames long)

Falling Paper Exercise, messed up a lot of the perspective on the character, but really enjoy the walk cycle gag at the end...

The final project, just finished it off yesterday... The exercise is to make a basic 'sack' character jump once. Demonstrating the principles of squash and stretch while moving a character. I went overboard and structured a multiple scene loop.

Well thats it for now... there are still a few more to post, more technical exercises, but think I'll fix up those lost frames from the loops first.

Cartooning Quicky

Alright, just a quick little update. Had my first cartooning class this term, its been a bit tough getting the proper construction of characters, but I've started to get a hang of it.
Start off with some crappy Calvin from Calvin and Hobbes... not the best example, but only easily scannable one.

Also got a few character rotations in. This guy is from my ill-fated "flight" project, Might actually look into doing a bit more with him... maybe a few test animations or something

Finish it off with some skull/face gestures/drawings... For some reason my teacher seems very scared of the 3/4 rotation skull, as she has only ever given examples for the front and side skull view... so naturally I gave it a try.

ok... that's it for now... Next I'll try to get up some life drawing, or some more animation... Till then, have a good one!

Year 2 Term 1 - completed

Well that was... interesting.... Still gotta finish up some make up animation classes, and complete a kick ass little animation loop. But I got the all clear from teh rest of my courses, so I can finally take a break... figure I would start by updating the blog with some work from this term. hmm... might as well start out with some background painting... as its the easiest to scan.

Might not seem like alot but each one of these paintings represents several evenings of brainstorming new creative strands of swearing torrents... It was a real struggle cause they had to be completed in Gouche paints... a medium I still can't get used to... friggen watercolour that wants to be acrylic, but always dry's too light.

anyways, more random work to go up over the next few days...

Back from the wayside

Hey Everybody,

Sorry about forgetting about this blog, but needless to say that the painting a day experiment petered out. I did manage up to 5 days, but got too busy with other work, till summer ended. Anyways, finally gotten a break from school so figure I'd post some work from the year so far. I'm gunna try to get a bunch over work up over the entire week. least attempt to practice regular update...

Couple of boxed form drawings, and a modelled drawing using india ink(on cardboard backing)

oh, and finally started to learn how to animate

got a few more little test animation, but have to wait to later this month to put them up. Plus these are a bit poorly shot, so might repost them later.

Day 2

Already got a couple of panels organized for the coming days, but tomorrow I'll be taking an early break from this narrative. A friend of mine from MTM will be heading out to paint in the park. So I'm going to try my hand at some on location painting.

I will be switching up the canvas as these tiles tend to melt in direct sunlight... seriously... but should be well above the 12 x 12 inch minimal size

Day 1

First day of the project... and I know, its the painting from before... yes I got started ahead of time, so technically I'm working 2 days ahead of schedule. Just a precaution for the sake of time and in the interest of sanity...

I really got to learn how to take better pictures of these things. Also the text will be added in once I figure out how to properly digitize them. No point in doing the extra dialog work and then having to redo it.

Hey kid, wanna know how the world ends?

To sound like a broken record. Apologizes for the delay in getting more things posted. Haven't had much time for art in the past few days, but I have been doing some renovation work around the house. In fact I was able to salvage some new painting canvas' from the basement tiles

they are 12 by 12 inch linoleum tiles from the 1940s. They wreak of moldy old glue, they crack pretty easily, and are very cold to paint on. oh, plus they tend to melt in the sun... but I got over 50 free canvas' so I've decided to do up a short story from the lightbulb head project. "Hey kid, wanna know how the world ends?"

that dialog will appear on the lower frame, from the past out hobo looking character there... The point of this project and the massive stack of 26 primed tiles so to try an complete a tile each day. Not sure if that will work out, but I'll be giving it my all.

on an unrelated note... here is where the magic happens, and incidentally the table that's the namesake of the blog

I'll clean it tomorrow is an ongoing motto

with sexy results

Alright, as promised, I made it out to draw at Dr. Sketchy's which was an incredible experience. I'm certainly going to try to make it to every session humanly possible... good crowd, great models... (they were seriously posing in high heels all night, big kudos there) these drawings don't really do the poses justice, so hopefully I can do better next session.

and now its getting to image life drawing without a bar nearby...

Finally, drawing nude people again...

Alright, so I lapsed on the blog for a bit... been extremely busy with photo albums, and other life things... including a ton of painting, which I'll eventually post on here... in due time...

but in the meantime, naked drawings... or life drawings as a proper term...

hopefully I'll be doing some Dr. Sketchy's drawings for the next post... stay tuned

8 hour flight + recovery

Back from Budapest, and only had to stay awake for 20 some odd hours... got a ton of work to get done over the next 7 days, so might be a bit before I get to post again...

just wanted to get some drawings up from the trip. Sadly didn't have much time to do more....

anyways, I'll try to put something more up later this week... 8 hours worth of doodling actually...

Practice certainly makes something

Today was way too glorious... so I finally got out to do some wildlife sketching... unfortunately being out of practice, they really aren't worth posting up here, but just need a bit more practice... also first time using watercolour pencil crayons... I like the results, but again I need way more practice with them...

also tried my hand at a couple more building gestures... its been tricky trying to amalgamate the quick lines with perspective practices... but think I'm starting to get the hang of it...

hey, its me

Ok, quick little post here... Finally finished up the last assignment for school... its my second attempt at a self portrait using tonal values... the first one I did ended up all bug eyed like an anime character, and shall never see the light of day again... this one I just ended up looking a bit like a convict, which is apparently what the school was looking for (seriously, the previous years looked like murders)

also figured I'd post a few old paintings/digital paintings from the project... and by the end of the month I'll post the first page from the project... promise

to be, Weekly Edition

Right, so meant to post these pictures up last night, but went out and caught Duska with a friend... it was interesting, but has some major flaws in the narrative/pacing...

anyways, these are just a few more subway sketches....

I pretty much go out subway sketching every Sunday (least during the summer) so this will likely become a weekly update... along with my Thursday life drawing session

a couple of quick full body gestures with a mechanical pencil... think they turned out well... just gotta try to get out to some sports practices for more active poses...

ok.. this last one is my first attempt at building gesture in a long time... think I'm gunna need some more practice...
